plywood bed standing in a meadow

A low plywood bed, a grid of boards slotted into each other, with no screws and no glue.

I wanted a bed that is honest about how it is built: every joint stays visible and every edge shows the layers of the plywood.

The design is parametric, so I can make the bed in any size. I make it together with my mum, Joanna Markowska.

material
18 mm birch plywood
finish
hard wax oil, 2 coats
assembly
about 5 minutes, no tools
sizes
90, 120, 160 × 200 cm or custom

process

I'm a big fan of plywood, and I was sleeping on a mattress on the floor, so I decided to design the bed I'd want to have myself.

01 material

18 mm birch plywood.

02 cutting

The slats are cut to size on a panel saw, and the slots are CNC milled.

03 fit

Every plywood sheet is slightly different in thickness. Before cutting each bed, I measure the sheet and set the slot width to match it.

04 finish

Two coats of hard wax oil in a natural colour.

05 assembly

About 5 minutes, no tools needed.

The design is parametric: with the width, the leg spacing and the distance from the leg to the edge of the bed change too. For custom orders I can change every parameter, such as the height, the number of slats and the length.

The bed will soon be available on its own website. For now, to order it, write to me.
